Nominet renewals - update

Nominet WHOIS is now showing the correct expire dates for the small amount of customers who were affected by this error yesterday.

You can verify this for yourself by clicking here and by inserting your .uk domain name into the box on the right hand side marked “WHOIS”

Issues with Nominet renewals

A small percentage of customers have experienced some issues this weekend with .uk domains renewed via Nominet. Nominet have made some mistakes resulting in WHOIS information being displayed incorrectly and notices being sent out to affected customers.

Hostroute would like to re-assure anyone affected that the issues have now been resolved, and that WHOIS should be updated shortly to reflect the correct expiry dates.

We are pleased to announce our new Domain Manager which allows customers:

Log in and see all the domains you have registered
View expiry dates
Renew domains
Set domains to auto renew if required
Store card details on file for regular purchasing
Register new domain names
Change name servers
Change registrant (where permitted)
Lock and Unlock (where permitted)

All domains are still supplied with free email, web space, website builder and other useful features.

New, easier domain ordering process

Customers registering domain names now have the option to log in and use their previously saved details once the availability of the domain has been confirmed. This will allow people to register domains without having to fill in a registration form each time. The form will be pre-filled with your previous details (which can then be amended if required).

Increase in Domain Prices

A month ago, the registry for .com and .net domains increased their prices slightly. We absorbed that increase, but because these registries charge us in US dollars the reduction in the value of the pound has put the cost price of these domains up by 32%. Further increases are likely if the pound continues to fall against the US dollar.

We are therefore increasing our retail prices for all gtld domains to Â£14 per year including VAT. This is regrettable, but its the only way we can maintain the level of service that customers have come to expect.

Until a year or so ago we did charge Â£14 per year for these extensions so in many ways it is a return to previous pricing. We will not be making any extra profit, just covering the increased cost and the associated extra VAT and card processing fees on the higher amounts.

We will be having a number of promotions on other domain extensions shortly and will be adding a number of other extensions to our portfolio.

We also have a special offer for customers moving their web hosting to us so its possible you could save more than the extra you are paying for domains in other areas.

We have introduced Live Support via a chat interface. This is available during office hours via the link on the front page of the Hostroute web site. The service is already proving useful to customers as an addition to our helpdesk system.
